A plane was stuck on the tarmac at Perth Airport for more than two hours after a truck blocked it.

Flight QF938, from Perth to Brisbane, was due to take off just after 1pm, but passengers were stranded when a catering truck behind it broke down.

A Perth Airport spokesperson said the crew realized the catering truck was unusable around 1.20pm.

Qantas disembarked the passengers for a short time while arrangements were made by catering supplier dnata for the truck to be towed.

Nick McRae, who was a passenger, said they boarded the plane again around 3 p.m.

“Apparently no one can find a tow chain or strap,” he said.

dnata confirmed that one of the food trucks needed maintenance due to a technical issue.

“We apologize to our airline customer and its passengers for any inconvenience caused,” a spokesperson said.

“We will conduct an investigation in cooperation with the authorities and our client.”

The flight took off shortly after 3 p.m., more than two hours past its scheduled departure time.

The plane is expected to land in Brisbane at 6:20 p.m. Washington time.
