High profile prisoner found dead at Perth jail

A man has been found dead in his jail cell days after learning how he lured a nine-year-old girl from a Perth park and assaulted her were read out in court.

Ashley Bropho was found unconscious in his cell at Hakea Prison around 8am this morning. Paramedics and staff were unable to revive him.

The 40-year-old, described as having an intellectual disability and schizophrenia, pleaded guilty to two counts of indecency with a child under 13 and inciting a child to engage in sexual acts.

Bropho faced a pre-sentencing hearing this week when details of his offense were read out.

He lured the girl to his house with a Hungry Jacks burger, about a seven-minute walk away, and assaulted her.

The prisoner was assaulted, according to wa today.

9News understands that parts of the prison were closed after the death.

WA Police have been informed and major crime detectives are present to investigate the circumstances.

The police will provide a report to the state coroner.
