Daniil Medvedev thinks some players don’t necessarily need to be in great shape to be confident, as he thinks Novak Djokovic probably still arrives in Australia very confident of his chances. Medvedev, a former world No. 1, is full of confidence at the moment as he is coming off back-to-back triumphs in Rotterdam and Doha.
This Tuesday, Medvedev also kicked off his campaign in Dubai with a 6-4 6-2 win over Matteo Arnaldi. Medvedev has been on fire in recent weeks and he is aiming to win a third consecutive title in Dubai.
Medvedev: Djokovic probably still confident in Australia
“It’s great because confidence is very important in tennis.
We all know that. I think every tennis player has a different approach to confidence. For example, I have no idea, for me it is more important to have confidence in myself at the moment than, for example, last year remembering that I played well there.
Maybe it’s different for Novak because when he comes to Australia it feels like no matter what happened before he’s still confident there. So for me it’s important at the moment. Right now I feel good. Even today I felt like I was far from my best tennis, but I managed to complete it in straight sets.
It always helps. Yeah, I’m just really happy to be on a streak right now. The streaks always end. I will try to extend mine as long as possible. Feel good. I hope I can do good things here in Dubai,” Medvedev explained, according to Sportskeeda.
Meanwhile, Medvedev knows what it’s like to play against Djokovic in Australia. In the 2021 Australian Open final, Djokovic defeated Medvedev in straight sets. At the start of the 2023 season, Djokovic beat Medvedev in the Adelaide semi-finals.
Against Medvedev in Adelaide, Djokovic pulled his leg and suffered a hamstring injury. Still, Djokovic won Adelaide and then the Australian Open.
